 English 1202 Reporting Period #1  Unit: Conflict

NOTE: ALL STUDENTS IN 1202 NEED A NOTEBOOK THAT THEY CAN LEAVE IN CLASS.

The following provides a list of the "In class assessments."  This means that students are expected to complete all assigned work in class during the time assigned.   Because all tasks are be done in the time provided, time management is KEY!!!!

 Sept 5- 13:   The Trickster -  following the storyline

 Sept 18: Fish Cheeks- (p. 16-17)
         “Life’s not about fitting in, it’s about standing out”.  Using two examples from this selection, explain this quote.

Sept 19:       CHOICE:
Choose a selection from this unit that was not assigned
Provide a summary of the selection (include page number, title, author, type of selection)
Give two reasons why you chose that selection.
Would you recommend your selection? Why or why not?

Sept 20:          Ashes p. 30
            Do Analyzing conflict p. 35
            Do Analyzing voice p. 35

Sept 24-October 1:     Bullying themed movie

Sept 25:           Accident- p.36            
                           Do all three Discussion Questions p.37

Sept 27: Argumentative paragraph -Miley Cyrus

October 14-October 17:  Scars- literacy devices study -- based on our study of literary terms
                     1.  Explain how the author uses the covered literary devices effectively.


Conflict End of Unit Assessment : Oct. 21 (DETAILS TO FOLLOW)  This will mimic the midterm exam format, where students will be given a quote and one hour of class time to complete.

Oct 22-November 22: Novel Study  The Giver by Lois Lowry.  This will be covered in class. Check back for a reading schedule and assignments pertaining to this novel study. In order to start this novel we have to enusre we have the foundation of looking for literary devices and have the ability to answer constructed responses.


Dec: In the Heat of the Night by John Ball.  This will be covered in class. Check back for a reading schedule and assignments pertaining to this novel study. In order to start this novel we have to ensure that we have the foundation of looking for literary devices and have the ability to answer constructed responses.

NOTE IF SCHOOL IS CLOSED, TESTS & ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ON THE NEXT AVAILABLE DAY

Jan. month: exam review and exams
Feb. month: Independent Novel Aullak reading (those who require a teacher to read to them had that option provided), questions, test as well as completing research for the Traditional/Modern Way of Life based on the novel and articles/information from the Labradorian
 March 3-14: Lessons on how to write a Research Paper.   DUE MAR. 21.  Failure to submit on time will result in 'missing assignment' comment on April Report Card. All necessary time to complete and type have been given in school.  Irregular attendance would cause students not to complete on time and therefore INTERVENTIONS may be necessary.
March 18 will be a library day given for research or for typing.
March 24-April 4Poetry Unit: students will FURTHER explore poems and literary elements and devices
April 7 - April 17Prose Unit: students will FURTHER explore short stories and literary elements and devices
April 28- TBA: In-Class Novel The Gun by Paul Langdan.  A continuation of the bully.
